The IB Business Paper 1 case study has been out for nearly a month now, and even though this is the second May session case study (and the third overall), I still find myself questioning the best way to prepare students.
For the past two exam sessions, I’ve gone back and forth on how to help my students feel ready. Since I don’t introduce the paper or its structure until the case study is released, some students seem unsure of how to approach it. The questions are always the same:
Should students research the industry in question?
Should they look into competitors?
How much time should they dedicate to learning new key terms?
How much depth is really needed?
I don’t know if I’ve found the perfect mix yet, but I do enjoy gathering relevant information that can help students understand the broader context of the case study. If you’re like me, you might enjoy reading up on these topics yourself or sharing them with your students.
Here are three articles that I found particularly relevant to this year’s case study:
Statistics about the non-alcoholic drink industry: Statista
Environmentally friendly changes in the beverage industry: The New York Times
Pros and cons of social media influencers: Brandbassador
These articles provide insight into industry trends, sustainability efforts, and marketing strategies—key themes that might come up in Paper 1.
